A Lazy, Relaxing Weekend!

I have just had the most lazy and relaxing weekend!  I got to play hooky from work Saturday because my in-laws came to town.  Brian's Dad came to help with some much needed yard work at the rental house, so I stayed home and spent the day with Debra.  It was HOT HOT HOT outside, so we spent most of the day inside unless we were checking on the guys making sure they didn't get too hot.  After they left, Brian and I decided to go furniture shopping!  It was great to get to spend a few hours with him doing this, and we don't normally get to spend Saturday afternoons together :)  We found ourselves at 2 local furniture stores, testing out mattresses and peaking at other furniture that is on our long term list!  We lounged around on about a dozen mattresses, and think we are finally ready to bit the bullet with the Simmons NXG mattress.  It, too, is a foam mattress, but doesn't hold heat and is so heavenly! We are trying to be smart buyers as a mattress can be a long term and pricey investment.  Now....if we will just actually purchase it!

I love nothing more than a thunderstorm on a Sunday!  I stayed curled up on the couch reading my new book,  The Help!  If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.  It is a bit out of the norm for me, as I often find myself reading books from authors like Emily Giffin, Nicholas Sparks, Sophia Kinsella and the most recent Bride Quartet from Nora Roberts.  I have heard so many wonderful things about this life changing book, so I decided to give it a try.  What can I say, I cannot put it down!  It is such a remarkable story that every one should read!

That's it for tonight, as I have a date with my husband (yes, on the couch!) with our favorite women on Sunday night tv...The Kardashians and the Real Housewives of New Jersey!

Champagne taste!

Normally my passion is for all things fashion related, but lately I have been in house mode!  Brian and I are trying to decide if we want to stay in our home, or start looking for something more family friendly.  Starting a family is on our short term list, and along with baby comes more stuff!  The problem we are finding is that we have champagne taste on a beer budget!  When it comes to a home we have high expectations, and a wish list a mile long.  What we need to get past is that our next home might not be our dream home, but it will be a home that we spend a lot of years in, thus it needs to be large enough for a family!  If we decided to wait it out and stick with our charming little home that we are currently in, then we will need to do a lot of updating and organizing!  With that being said, I am in a decorating mood!  I want new furniture, new fixtures, a new kitchen, etc! It goes on and on!  I will pat myself on the back, as I have spent the past 5 years living in a home FULL of the furniture my husband bought right out of college or any hand me downs we may have collected over the years.  Needless to say, we don't have the same taste!  I am constantly looking for ways to update our living room furniture, and fun throw pillows always seem to work.  Lately I have had my eye on these cute ones from my favorite site, Etsy!
I guess being a newlywed, you'll find any excuse for something personalized with your new name :)

We have also been in the talks about getting a new bed.  Again, our mattress has some miles on it, so it doesn't produce the best nights sleep. Of course as we began to look at new mattresses, we found that we don't want the average Serta, instead my husband has his heart set on a Tempurpedic!  What else comes along with a Tempurpedic besides a good nights sleep?  A HEFTY price tag!  And after replacing not one, but TWO A/C units at our rental homes this summer, the bank of Dishman is BROKE! Not to mention, in our quest for a new mattress, we have decided that we would like to upgrade to a king size, which would cause us to buy a new bed.  We are really hoping for those tree's in our back yard to start producing some major cash! Ultimately I would prefer to be rid of our current bedroom furniture.  Since we can't afford to replace it all, I have decided that we can be "handy" and make our very own upholstered headboard!  My goal is to create one like this classy one from Pottery Barn, but on my beer budget!

We'll see how this works out!  Until we catch a major windfall, I need to remind myself to stay away from HGTV and Traditional Home, because for now, my ultimate house ideas will just need to be placed into a wish book!

A bit behind....

As you can tell, I haven't had much time lately to update a blog.  I guess when I get into the swing of things then I'll be better about posting! Things have been pretty busy at the store, getting stuff ready for our SALE, all the while getting lots of new Fall inventory in :)  Normally the beginning of each season I start talking about "Oh, I love Fall so much" or "Spring is my favorite".  I think I can honestly say that I am liking Fall a bit more each and every year.  It's something about the air, definitely the weather, and the fashion!  What can I say...I love sweaters, jeans and boots!  And don't forget the oh so comfortable leggings!  We got our first shipment of coats and sweaters in, and the boots are soon to follow! I can't wait to start putting my personal stash to the side!
I am loving the HUGE poncho trend this fall, and as always, I'll have high hopes that my stumpy little legs will be able to fit in a gorgeous Tory Burch boot!

Off the bed now...can't wait to get to work and see what our humble little UPS guys will bring tomorrow!
